Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Moses Ifedayo Adeoye, has expressed delight that Nigeria and Ghana consistently find a way to resolve their disputes amicably.
Adeoye, who spoke at an event in Ghana to mark Nigeria's Independence Day, revealed that both countries are like siblings with a deep relationship.
He said the attendance by dignitaries from both countries at the event was a testament to the relationship that exists between Nigeria and Ghana.
The ambassador told MyNigeria on the sidelines, "You know, some people out there don't know that between Nigeria and Ghana, there is a deeper cooperation. What happened tonight is a testament to that deeper cooperation. You can see that, despite the rain, people trooped in in large numbers to this event.
"Between siblings, there are quarrels, and they are part of society. The ability to resolve it amicably is what makes you. That is Nigeria and Ghana for you. Our relationship is very deep; some people don't know. Whenever there's any dispute between Nigeria and Ghana, we always know how to resolve it. We always resolve it diplomatically.
"In 2017 and 2018, when there was the issue of closing of shops, it was resolved amicably. Nigeria and Ghana, we love our relationship and will continue to protect it. Like I said in my speech, Nigerians are resilient and hardworking. I've always told them, you must learn how to live peacefully within your host communities. When you are in a foreign land, you have to learn to live and abide by the rules and regulations of your host country.
"Nigerians in Ghana are doing well and contributing to the economic growth of Ghana. I'm happy with what they are doing and I will continue to encourage them to live peacefully within their host communities."
Adeoye also recounted how Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Biance Odumegwu-Ojukwu, visited Ghana during the Nigeria-Must-Go protests.
He said she addressed the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana and spoke with Nigerians, emphasising the need to respect their hosts.
