Ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has slammed those who use an iPhone but can hardly be found with $300 in their bank account.
Warning people to stop going broke while trying to look rich, Omokri advised them to emulate wealthy people in terms of how they invest their money.
In a Facebook post, he referred to the modest gadgets used by Aliko Dangote and Tony Elumelu despite their wealth.
He wrote, "Emulate how the wealthy invest, not how they spend, and your finances will eventually become healthy. Have you ever seen Dangote with an iPhone? If in doubt, please find a photo of him with a phone and zoom in on it. Yet he is worth $30 billion. You don't have even $300 in your account, but you have an iPhone. When I met Tony Elumelu, he had a notebook. I saw no phone. He took my number on that notepad.
"Stop going broke trying to look rich. It is better to look poor while investing to be rich. The reason many people are poor is because they use their salary, or whatever little money they can lay their hands on, to buy liabilities, while the rich use their profits to purchase assets. Consumerism is a disease! You want to be a prosumer. A prosumer consumes what he produces. When you use your salary to buy expensive things because you want to live like the big boys who used profits to buy theirs, what you are actually buying is poverty. Invest like the rich so you can reach their pitch!"
