The Minority caucus in the House of Representatives has congratulated Nigeria's former Information Minister, Chief Edwin Clark as he turns 93 today May 25.

In their address to the elder statesman, they hailed his leadership qualities, patriotism and relentless commitment in the development of the country.

The Minority Leader of the House, Rep. Ndudi Elumelu (PDA-Delta), in a statement signed and issued on Monday, described Clark as ‘a leading light, a forthright, fearless and outspoken leader’.

”Chief Clark has remained a firm and uncompromised voice for the entrenchment of rule of law, social justice, adherence to the principles and tenets of constitutional federalism.

”He stands for equitable distribution of national opportunities and undiluted respect for the sensibilities and rights of federating units in the quest for a strong, united and virile nation,” he said.

The lawmaker said that over the years, Clark had remained philanthropic and dedicated to the good of the Nigerian people.

According to Elumelu, his commitment to the development of the younger generation is evinced in his roles, leading to the establishment of the University of Benin and the Edwin Clark University.

He said that Clark, in his service to the nation, had demonstrated the hallmark of statesmanship as well as a huge example for leaders at all levels.

Elumelu congratulated Clark on his 93rd birthday and prayed God to grant him more years in good health to continue in his good works for the nation and humanity at large. (NAN)
