Lagos trains 487 youths in tech, job skills

The Lagos State Government has said it had demonstrated its commitment to empower young people in the state by training 487 youths in solar technology and employability skills.

The Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, said this on Wednesday during the graduation ceremony of some trainees in Alausa, Ikeja.Arobieke said the training was organised by the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment in collaboration with Wave Academy and the International Institute of Technology and Application, United States.

She said, “Our ministry collaborated with IITA to train 287 youths towards global certification on solar technology for 10 weeks and we also partnered Wave Academy to train 200 unemployed youths on soft employability skills.

This is a demonstration of this administration’s commitment to build capacity and equip youth.“Our strive towards creating opportunities and platforms for the youths in Lagos to thrive on and excel is a continuous movement, I urge our youths to make use of these varied projects and contribute to the state,” she said.

The IITA Project Coordinator, Prof. Tokunbo Onabanjo, said with the erratic electricity supply in Nigeria, the training in solar technology was vital.The Chief Executive Officer, Wave Academy, Mrs Omolade Adeniyi, said, “The trainings took place in Mushin, Ikotun, Amuwo-Odofin and Badagry and these young men and women were inculcated with problem-solving, as well as virtual skills.”
