Former presidential aide, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the police of firing gunshots and teargas at protesters in Lagos on Monday.
He said the police took the action as soon as they sighted him joining some protesters decrying the demolition of their properties in Oworonshoki by officials of the Lagos State government.
Sowore wrote on X, "In Lagos, earlier today, I was targeted by @policeng during an anti-demolition protest in Oworonsoki, the deadly squads were sent by Kayode Egbetokun, the illegal Inspector General of Police. Upon my arrival, the police contingents began firing riot guns directly at protesters and deployed additional RRS reinforcements.
"I captured some of their actions, including indiscriminate arrests and attacks on innocent bystanders during a Facebook Live broadcast I did on the scene.
"It is disheartening to see law enforcement officers, who should be dedicated to fighting crime, terrorism, insurgency, and banditry, being utilised against defenceless citizens."
Meanwhile, the Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has said no form of protest will be tolerated in the state.
The CP stated this Monday as he led his men to the Oworonshoki area of Lagos.
Addressing newsmen, the CP said he has made deployments across strategic areas in the state.
According to him, the increased presence of officers in those areas is due to information available to the command that some people are planning to stage a protest, thereby inconveniencing other residents.
