On Monday, May 18, 2026, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) took decisive action by sealing the BON Hotel situated on Sule Olusesi Street in the Conservation Area of Lekki, Eti-Osa. This measure was a response to the hotel's improper disposal of untreated wastewater into the environment and public drainage systems.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, explained that the enforcement was triggered by findings that the hotel used pumping machines to dump untreated wastewater into public drains. This practice caused environmental pollution, foul odors, and significant health and safety concerns for residents.
Wahab shared this information via his official social media channels, reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s dedication to environmental protection and the rigorous enforcement of sanitation laws throughout the state.
He issued a stern warning that any individual, organization, or business involved in activities that threaten the environment or public health would face penalties according to Lagos State’s environmental legislation.
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office also called on residents and corporate bodies to ensure proper wastewater disposal and to collaborate with authorities in efforts to keep Lagos clean, safe, and healthy.
