LOCKDOWN: 'Electricity is not free!' - IKEDC tells Lagosians

One of the power distribution companies in Lagos State, Ikeja Electric Plc, has informed Lagosians that "Electricity is not free" under lockdown.

The company, via its official Twitter page, urged the citizens to pay up their electricity bills to ensure that they enjoy supply.

Lagos alongside Abuja and Ogun will be ending the four-weeks lockdown imposed by the Federal Government since 11 pm, March 30, today. The lockdown is part of efforts to curb the spread of the lethal infection.

“Electricity is NOT free! Not even during the lockdown. Please PAY your bills to enjoy power supply,” the tweet read.

The company, however, added it supports the efforts of the Federal Government and the National Assembly to consider a proposal exploring the possibility of providing free electricity for two months as part of palliatives to cushion the effect of the lockdown on customers.

It, however, added, “At the moment, it is still a proposal undergoing stakeholder reviews. It has not been approved by the Federal Government as a stimulus package or palliative.”

The company urged Lagosians to pay their electricity bills using online platforms so as to continue to have access to power “during this difficult period”.
