Nigerians are waiting in anticipation of who will emerge as president of the Red Chamber and Speaker of the Green Chamber ahead of today's Senate and the House of Representatives inauguration.

The two frontrunners for the Senate Presidency are the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari.

Many are expecting a keenly contested race as the ruling APC has thrown its weight behind Senator Godswill Akpabio for the Senate Presidency, and Tajudeen Abass of Kaduna State for the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The APC’s National Working Committee has also endorsed Senator Jibrin Barau from North-West for Deputy Senate President and Benjamin Kalu of Abia/South-East as Deputy Speaker for the House of Reps.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from Abia State dropped his bid for the Senate presidency and formed an alliance with Yari to contest for the deputy Senate president’s position.

109 Senators are expected to elect The Senate president and deputy Senate president in the Red Chamber, while 360 House of Representatives members will elect the House Speaker and deputy speaker.
