Music video director TG Omori has described kidney failure as a growing epidemic in Nigeria, revealing that some hospitals have begun flying in international surgeons to keep up with the rising number of cases.

Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, Omori said the recurring nature of kidney failure cases has forced the healthcare system to adapt.

"Kidney failure has become a pandemic in Nigeria. The system is also trying to fight it, because it's very reoccurring. So doctors are becoming better with it. Hospitals are expanding their facilities — something's like a pandemic and it keeps coming and keeps coming, hospitals tend to adapt," he said.

According to him, only a handful of hospitals in the country currently offer top-tier treatment for the condition, with some bringing in specialists from abroad to handle procedures.

"Most of the hospitals we have, like a few, like two, three, are really, really doing fine. And most of them bring in surgeons... they just have all the facilities and they just bring in international surgeons from America to come with that team," he said.

Omori explained that patients requiring these specialised procedures are often grouped together to make the cost of flying in foreign surgeons more feasible.

"So they just get like a batch, probably 10 people that have paid a certain amount of money so they can be able to afford the surgeons," he said.

The phenomenon of fake alcohol in Nigeria has been a recurring topic online, with many people blaming counterfeit beverages made under unhygenic conditions for various health problems among the youth.

"Kidney failure has become a pandemic in Nigeria, and it's the fake alcohol.
Because it keeps coming, the hospitals are adapting, flying in surgeons from America.
The survival rate is good now"
