In its contribution to tackle kidney disease in Nigeria, as well as commemorate its 3rd anniversary, the charity arm of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), His Love Foundation (HLF) has donated the Enoch and Folu Adeboye Dialysis Centre to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu to the Ogun State government.

The new donation is part of HLF’s expansion of access to quality healthcare and supporting the state government’s efforts in bringing critical healthcare solutions closer to people and prevent avoidable deaths.

The donated dialysis centre, which also served to commemorate RCCG’s 69th yearly convention, has three dialysis machines, a medical water reverse osmosis purification system, and a 30KVA generator.
The donation is the 16th in the series of specialised medical interventions, Intensive Care Units (ICU), Dialysis Centres, Cancer Screening Centre, Primary Healthcare Centres donated by HLF in the country in the last three years. The Kidney Dialysis Centre is the second to be commissioned by the foundation in Ogun State in 2021.

In attendance were Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, represented by the state’s Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako Oyedele, the Secretary to the State Government, Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi, the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shuaib Afolabi Salisu and the commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker.

The General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Adeboye, represented by prof. Aboaba Folagbade Olajide, reiterated the church’s commitment to not relent on its efforts to impact lives positively, by providing spiritual and physical support to everyone, irrespective of where they are from.
He said the dialysis centre would complement the ICU centre at RCCG Redemption Camp, Mowe. The Assistant Continental Overseer and The Intercontinental Overseer on CSR, Idowu Iluyomade, while making the donation, noted that a critical look at the need for kidney dialysis in Nigeria paints dire picture of the task at hand. “Based on needs assessment, we discovered that kidney diseases represent eight to 10 per cent of hospital admissions in Nigeria, with only 175 functioning dialysis machines in the whole of the country to take care of the over 25 million patients”.

He explained that the burden of kidney disease management is quite heavy, but with God’s grace, the CSR arm of RCCG would continue to uphold the divine mandate of the Saviour that “I was sick and you visited me. (Matthew 25: 36).”

The Acting Chief Medical Director, Mrs. Oluwabunmi M. Fatungase, in her appreciation to HLF and RCCG said: “We sent letters to several corporate organisations and religious bodies, but to our surprise and without our physical follow up, HLF came to inspect our facility and promised to overhaul the facility, which is what we are witnessing today.”

She assured RCCG and HLF leadership that “the hospital management would adequately maintain the facility for good use of Ogun residents and Nigeria at large.”
