Popular Nigerian actor Williams Uchemba has voiced his concern over the alarming rise of kidnapping cases across Nigeria, following the circulation of a video showing a young lady allegedly kidnapped by armed men.
In the viral footage, the terrified victim can be seen pleading for help as her captors reportedly demanded ransom.
Reacting to the incident, Uchemba lamented that while some kidnappers are arrested, what happens afterwards is often kept away from the public.
The actor suggested that the government should implement stricter and highly visible punishments for kidnapping.
He shared that there should be a dedicated channel where these kidnappers are publicly captured and executed.
Drawing a comparison with China, he noted that crimes such as kidnapping and corruption carry the death penalty there.
According to him, enforcing stronger and more transparent legal consequences in Nigeria would discourage others from engaging in criminal activities.
Uchemba concluded by urging the government to strictly uphold and implement the constitution, stressing that without firm action, the country will continue to struggle with kidnapping and other social vices.
