A Nigerien national who was kidnapped by bandits from the Niger Republic and brought to Nigeria has been rescued.

Briefing newsmen on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the Command has received information that a white Nigerien man was seen on a motorcycle being carried by gunmen along Zamfara-Sokoto border.

Shehu said,

“Immediately we got this information, we contacted other neighbouring states of Sokoto, Kebbi and Katsina to find out if there was any white man missing from their states but we could not find any information of a missing white man.

“Since we could not get any information on the missing white man, we assumed that he might be kidnapped from Zamfara, as such, we swung into action where we mobilized our men and went into the forest to rescue him”.

According to Shehu, the repentant bandits were used by the police in the search for the kidnapped Nigerien national.

According to him, after two days of intensive search in the forest, the victim was discovered in the hands of his captives where he was rescued and brought to Gusau, the state capital.

Shehu said the victim who gave his name as Diddi Kadiri was taken to hospital where he was confirmed healthy, adding that he would be taken back to his country for him to reunite with his family.

Narrating his ordeal to newsmen, Kadiri said he was kidnapped by bandits in his hometown of Abalak village in Tahoa state of Niger Republic.

He stated that, although he was not treated badly by the bandits, he was not given enough and good food, a situation which made him think that he would die in their hands.

He maintained that the bandit demanded the sum of N5 million ransom for his release but thanked God that he was saved by the Nigerian police without spending anything.
