Kenya Airways is stepping up efforts to attract younger Nigerian travellers, using visa-free entry into Kenya, daily flights from Lagos and locally prepared meals to strengthen its appeal in the country.
The airline recently hosted Nigerian media personality, Noble Igwe, and fashion entrepreneur, Tania Omotayo, who is also the founder of Ziva Lagos, on a trip to Nairobi as part of a campaign targeting millennial and Generation Z travellers.
Kenya Airways said the initiative was designed to introduce Kenya to a younger generation of Nigerians who have traditionally favoured destinations in Europe and the Gulf.
Nigeria is one of the airline’s longest-serving markets outside East Africa, with operations between Lagos and Nairobi dating back to 1998.
The airline operates daily flights on the route, comprising four daytime and three overnight services weekly.
A major part of its current selling point is Kenya’s visa-free entry policy for Nigerian passport holders, who can stay in the country for up to 60 days without obtaining a visa or electronic travel authorisation.
Country Manager, Nigeria, Kenya Airways, James Nganga, said the airline was working to make travel between both countries more accessible and attractive.
“With visa-free access, daily flights, authentic Nigerian cuisine onboard and seamless connections across our network, we are removing barriers and creating experiences that resonate with a new generation of Nigerian travellers,” he said.
The airline also highlighted changes to its onboard services, particularly the introduction of meals prepared in Lagos for passengers departing Nigeria.
Since March 2026, Kenya Airways has sourced catering from Lagos, allowing passengers to enjoy Nigerian dishes, including jollof rice, on flights to Nairobi.
The Lagos route is operated with the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which offers Business Class passengers seats that convert into flatbeds.
Igwe, who documented aspects of the trip, said the combination of Nigerian food and the Business Class experience made the journey appealing.
Omotayo also described the service as a positive part of the travel experience, noting that the cabin service and hospitality contributed to the journey.
Beyond tourism, the airline is positioning Nairobi as a connecting point for Nigerian travellers heading to other African and international destinations.
Kenya Airways serves 44 destinations worldwide, including 36 in Africa, through its Nairobi hub. It is also the only African member of the SkyTeam airline alliance.
The airline said its Asante Rewards programme allows passengers to earn and redeem points across its network, including for hotel stays through partners such as Accor and Serena.
It also recently partnered with Visa and Absa Bank to introduce the Asante Global Card, which offers benefits including airport lounge access, travel and medical insurance, additional baggage allowance and priority airport services.
