Katsina to recruit 19,608 Ad hoc staff for LG Poll

Katsina State Katsina State

Ahead of the April 11 local government election in Katsina State, the state Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) has said it will recruit 19,608 ad hoc staff to conduct the poll.

The Chairman of the KTSIEC, Ibrahim Bako, who stated this in a chat with journalists, said each of the 4,902 polling units in the state would be manned by four people during the exercise.

THISDAY had reported that the KTSIEC has fixed April 11 for the conduct of the local government election after six years of legal battle between the state government and the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the state.

According to Bako, “We have 361 wards and 4,902 polling units and all of them we know where they are. At least each polling unit will be manned by four people who are going to conduct the election.

“This is irrespective of the security people and also the agents of political parties that will be on the ground to monitor the election in each polling unit.”

He, however, said internally displaced persons (IDPs), who left their abodes due to the activities of terrorists in the frontline local government areas of the state, would not be denied their voting rights.

He said: “We can create an alternative framework within the law and make everybody vote because it is a right for them to vote, not a privilege.

“Whatever the situation we find ourselves in, we will improvise something within the law that will make everybody vote, including the IDPs.”
