Nollywood star Kate Henshaw recently became the target of online trolling after expressing support for Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. An APC supporter took to Twitter to attack the actress, not only for her political stance but also for her personal life.
The troll posted a photo of Henshaw and insulted her for being unmarried in her 50s, writing:
“Any woman who stays unmarried after 50 years is kasogo yeye. Stay away from such women.”
The online attack didn’t stop there. The same user also shared a retweet that accused the actress of trying to bring down Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The tweet read:
“Decorum when Kate actually dabbed to set Sanwo Olu that hasn’t done anything to her up because he decided to put Peteru in his place? While I may find Chigozirim’s response offensive and derogatory, however, political terrain is more wilder than that. Na aunty Kate cuz am.”
The remarks sparked criticism from many who viewed the attack as both misogynistic and disrespectful. Henshaw, known for her strong and vocal personality, didn’t remain silent. Though her exact response wasn’t quoted in the exchange, she has consistently stood firm in defending her right to support the candidate of her choice.
This incident highlights the increasingly toxic nature of political discourse on social media, where personal attacks often overshadow meaningful debate. Henshaw, a respected figure in Nollywood, remains undeterred by online insults, continuing to use her platform to speak her truth.
