The Coordinator of the Techincal Response Team in Kano, Tijjani Hussaini has said Kano residents do not conduct autopsies for dead bodies.

Speaking on a Channels Television programme today, Hussaini said the technical response squad is still investigating the cause of widespread deaths in the state.

Giving more details into how dead people are buried in Kano, he said autopsies are not usually conducted in Kano due to the traditional practice not only obtainable in Kano but in other northern states.

"You hardly find families taking their dead bodies for an autopsy when they die. This is the practice in Kano and other northern states in Nigeria. The Islamic law said we should bury dead as soon as possible," Hussaini explained.

Suggesting a way forward, the coordinator said his team alongside other partners would conduct a basic investigation of digging graves and examining how people died.

"It is difficult to say what is the cause of the numerous deaths unless we do a basic investigation of going to examine the corpses. We are not doing it alone. We are utilising help from the NCDC and a few other of our partners," the coordinator responded.
