Kano receives 209,520 doses of coronavirus vaccine

Kano State Government on Tuesday night took delivery of 209,520 doses of the Oxford-Astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccines.

The consignment which arrived at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano at exactly 11.15 pm on Allied Air E-Cargo 5N-TON plane was received by Kano state Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, and representatives of World Health Organization, National Primary Health Commission, Presidential Task Force PTF and other frontline health workers.

Tsanyawa, who took the delivery on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said Kano is expected to receive an additional dose of the vaccines to meet the high demand and population density of the state.
The commissioner stressed that Ganduje and top Government officials will lead the administration of the vaccines in the due cause after which health workers and security personnel who are on the frontline would take turns to receive their dose.

Although the commissioner was not specific when the administration of the vaccines will commence, he disclosed that the government is embarking on consultation and engaging various stakeholders on the need to accept the COVID-19 vaccines.

On efforts to preserve the vaccines, the commissioner explained that adequate provision for storage has been made at every local government area to safe guide the medication.

Nigeria took delivery of over four million doses of the Vaccines out of the target 16 million doses that will be dispatched to the country in batches.

President Muhammad Buhari and vice president Professor Yemi Osibajo recently took the COVID-19 vaccines in a nationwide broadcast to demonstrate leadership by example.
