The Kano State Censorship Board has officially suspended Amina Uba Hassan and Adam Garba from all film-related activities in the state for a period of one year. The announcement was contained in a statement released on Sunday, signed by Abdullahi Sulaiman on behalf of Executive Secretary Abba El-Mustapha.

The board stated that the duo featured in a video widely condemned by residents for its alleged indecent and morally offensive content — a move the authority described as a clear violation of the cultural and ethical standards the Kannywood industry is expected to uphold.

Beyond the suspension, the board issued a stern warning to producers and directors, making clear that anyone who works with the suspended actors during this period will face even harsher legal consequences under the state's film production laws.

El-Mustapha used the occasion to send a broader message to practitioners across the industry, urging them to be mindful of their actions and protect the reputation of Kannywood.

"Practitioners should avoid actions capable of tarnishing their image or bringing disrepute to the industry," he cautioned, adding that the board has full legal authority to sanction anyone found flouting its regulations.

The development has since divided public opinion, with debates continuing online over where creative freedom ends and cultural responsibility begins.
