June 12: Why this anniversary will be different from the others

Thousands of Nigerians have taken to social media to express their displeasure at the abysmal handling of the country by President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that they will go on a nationwide protest on June 12, 2021.

Buhari's administration has been characterized by negligence, increase in terrorism attacks, increase in abductions and kidnapping, low youth employment rate, poor handling of the economy, increase in succession movements and others.

According to some Nigerians, it's either they stay in their rooms and allow president Buhari and his government to kill them slowly or they go out there to demand a better society.

MyNigeria has put together some social media reactions to the June 12th protest below:

What sparked the June 12th protest

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore was shot by a notorious trigger happy police officer, Altine Hyelhira Daniel during a peaceful protest at the Unity Fountain in Abuja on Monday, May 31.

The protest was held to demand an end to insecurity in the country and was an assembly of several concerned Nigerians and groups before the police forcefully disrupted the protesters with gunshots and tear gas canisters.

The act by the police officers caused outrage among Nigerians, who believe they are suppressed and should be allowed to peacefully demonstrate against a government they consider as bad. Sowore then called on the masses to demonstrate again on June 12th.
