On Wednesday, June 12, a large number of Nigerians took to the streets in protest, voicing their grievances with the economic challenges facing the nation as it commemorated the 25th anniversary of Democracy Day.
Amid heavy security presence around Eagles Square, demonstrators stormed the area, chanting solidarity songs and holding placards and banners.
The inscriptions on the placards read: "President Tinubu, let the poor breathe," "We demand a general strike and mass protest now," and "Immediate implementation of a living wage for all Nigerian workers."
Leading the protest were several civil society organizations, notably the Take It Back Movement, the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution, and the Socialist Workers League, all uniting under a common cause for change.
