The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi denied ever being part of the infamous Association for Better Nigeria (ABN), the group that masterminded the annulment of the June 12 presidential elections.

Obi who was speaking in an interview on Arise TV on Monday, March 13 dismissed the reports while noting that he was with his family in England when the election was annulled.

He was responding to the question by co-host Dr. Reuben Abati who asked if he was ever part of the group.

"In 1993 Reuben, I lived in England and had nothing to do with politics. In 1993, business was between Nigeria and the UK. I was living in England with my family. If you want to know, my son was born in 1993 Dec, if you check his birth certificate, he was in England," he said.

"My daughter, go and check, they were in primary schools in England. I have little people in schools in England and I am in Nigeria doing better Nigeria when my wife leaves there. So who are they living with? So to the people saying all those sorts of things, I was never involved in politics. I was a businessman who was contributing to the country."

Recall that on June 10, 1993, Arthur Nzeribe attempted to stop the presidential election by relying on a court order ABN got from a midnight ruling from the late Justice Bassey Ikpeme of the Abuja High Court, ThisDay reports.

The ABN backed the military dictator Gen. Ibrahim Babangida’s regime leading to the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, adjudged to be the fairest, freest, and most transparent in the history of Nigeria, won by MKO Abiola.

Senator Arthur Nzeribe, the founder and leader of the association died at 83.
