Investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo has dismissed allegations linking him to membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, he had to go public about his political status following several calls from friends over the last 24 hours.

"Over the last 24 hours, I have been inundated with calls from friends seeking to establish the veracity of online claims linking me to APC. So I will address this once and for all: it’s all hogwash," he said on X.

"Although I hold left-wing political opinions, I have always been non-partisan. I am a journalist; I have no links to APC or ANY other political party, politician or movement for that matter."

He further revealed his position on the President Bola Tinubu administration, saying he can never be in bed with the same government he criticises.

"I’ve had three opportunities to join politics — PDP before 2015 elections, APC before 2019 elections, APC before 2023 elections — and I’ve spurned them all. I am a hardcore field journalist and I do not foresee politics for myself any moment soon. In any case, my opinion of the Bola Tinubu government is well-documented: it has impoverished the masses and most importantly serially targeted journalists in its never-ending shrinking of the civic space. No chance I’ll be in bed with a government I’ve consistently dubbed a ‘pseudo-democracy’.

"If I ever join politics or decide to start hobnobbing with politicians, I’d never do it clandestinely. I am a man of my convictions. And you’d certainly be hearing it from me first — not from anyone else," he said.
