Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho has weighed in on the debate surrounding the 2025 Ballon d'Or.
According to the Special One, this year's coveted prize should be awarded to one of the Portuguese internationals who enjoyed a stellar campaign with Paris Saint-Germain and the national team.
The trio of Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and João Neves were instrumental in PSG’s historic treble-winning season last term.
They capped off their remarkable year by helping Portugal clinch the UEFA Nations League title.
Mourinho believes that individual accolades should be closely tied to team success.
“For me, any individual trophy must always have a direct connection to titles,” Mourinho told Canal 11.
“I love them both [Vitinha and Mendes]; I can’t tell the difference. The only thing I’d say is that there’s still a small group of good midfielders there, and now full-backs like that.
“I’d like one of them to win, obviously, but then Jorge Mendes will get mad at me because he only thinks Yamal, his player, should win.”
Also in contention for the prestigious award are Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé.
