At least 524 Almajiri returnees will be screened for the deadly coronavirus by the Jigawa State government following their deportation from Kano State.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje sanctioned the deportation of about 1595 Almajiris to their origin states in order to curb the spread of the pandemic that has infected over 870 in Nigeria.

For safety returnees will be tested for COVID-19 before reuniting with their various families, Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar revealed.

He also noted that the state has no plans for non-indigene Almajiris as to reduce the risk of contamination in Jigawa.

"We would examine their health condition and those who are healthy would be sent back to their local government and those who have health challenges would be isolated for two weeks.

"They would also be provided with beds and food until they are declared safe to mingle with other people in the society," he said.
