The national Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has dismissed reports that he met with the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt amid the crisis rocking the party ahead of the general election.

This comes as a photo surfaced on social media with the claim that Ayu travelled to Port Harcourt to meet with Wike.

Wike and the Integrity Group commonly known as the G-5 Governors had demanded the resignation of Ayu the national chairman of the PDP for a southerner to take over since Atiku Abubakar also a northerner, emerged the party’s flagbearer.

This demand by the G-5 Governors was denied as Ayu refused to step down. This move led to Wike and his cronies withdrawing their support for Atiku in the 2023 election.

According to Iyorchia Ayu who spoke through his media aide, Simon Imobo-Tswam, he noted that he had no meeting with Wike in Port Harcourt or anywhere else in the country on Wednesday, January 4.

Imobo-Tswam stated that the false report was the doing of mischief makers.

“Dr. Ayu states clearly that:1. He never travelled to Port Harcourt and 2. He has not set eyes on Gov. Wike lately. “The photograph trending on the social media is an old one. The story accompanying it is, therefore, false and mischievous," the statement read.
