APC has stated that the car crash involving Adams Oshiomhole was an attempt to assassinate the former national chairman.

The ruling party also explained that Oshiomhole's convoy was moving on a legal speed limit when the accident happened.

APC, however, expressed sadness over the deaths of two policemen who lost their lives in the crash.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as an "assassination attempt" the fatal accident that claimed lives of two policemen during the party's governorship campaign in Oluku Ovia Northeast local government area.

Legit.ng recalls that in what forced Edo APC to suspend its campaign, a trailer ran into the travelling campaign entourage of top chieftains of the party, including the party's former national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, before Oluku junction, in Benin city.

APC campaign council spokesman, John Mayaki, said the road crash led to the death of two people, though Oshiomhole was rescued from the scene unhurt.

APC says the car crash in Edo involving Adams Oshiomhole was an attempt to assassinate the former national chairman.

The accident, which happened around 1pm on Tuesday, September 1, also saw many chieftains of the party severely injured.

Mayaki said the convoy of Oshiomhole was moving in a legal speed limit when the trailer ran into the former APC chairman's entourage, adding that the car crash was a failed assassination attempt.

“Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and other persons in the convoy, apart from those indicated above did not sustain any injuries.

“Without prejudice to police investigations, eyewitnesses account of the incident suggest, and we believe rightly too, that this was an assassination attempt, targeting Comrade Adams Oshiomhole," Mayaki said.

He also expressed sorrow over the death of the two policemen.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has condoled with Oshiomhole and Osagie Ize-Iyamu over a road accident involving a backup security vehicle and top chieftains of the APC in the party’s campaign entourage.

In a statement, the governor commiserated with the families of the victims of the crash and prayed that God grants them the fortitude to bear the loss of their loved ones.

“While we pray for strength for the families of the deceased persons, we also pray for the quick recovery of those who were injured and are receiving treatment,” the governor said in a statement.
