'It’s a dream come true' — Osimhen reacts to captaining Super Eagles against Uganda

Victor Osimhen was handed the Super Eagles’ captain’s armband for the first time in his international career and has described the moment as the fulfilment of his childhood dream.

The Galatasaray striker, who celebrated his 27th birthday on the same day, guided the Super Eagles to a comprehensive 3–1 victory over the Cranes of Uganda, as Nigeria cemented their position as Group C winners with nine points from three games.

Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu scored the opener for the three-time African champions, before Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika added a brace to make it 3–0.

Rogers Mato later scored a consolation for Paul Put’s side to make it 3–1.

Osimhen, who was appointed deputy captain to Wilfred Ndidi prior to the start of the tournament, was elated to lead the team for the first time.

“It’s a dream come true for me because I grew up watching the Super Eagles,” the Galatasaray forward said after the game.

Eric Chelle’s side will be looking to maintain their winning momentum as they head into the knockout stage of the competition.
