Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections says he would have shut down the idea by the National Assembly to purchase new cars to aid in their work in the house.

Mr Obi made the comment as he made his first public appearance following the ruling of the Supreme Court that affirmed the victory of President Tinubu as the winner of the presidential elections.

Fielding questions from journalists, Obi said, he would have discarded the idea immediately if he was president. According to him, the idea insults the sensitivity of Nigerians.

"I have actually discussed this with them and I heard that these vehicles are official cars. If we were in office, nobody would have contemplated getting a new car in my tenure and that is where we want to go from. Because it is not enough to do the wrong thing and start correcting it but it shouldn't even be."

"That is why people are saying the issue of yacht and it has been withdrawn. It shouldn't even be mentioned in the first place because it touches the sensitivity of Nigerians."

Recall that Nigerians condemned the viral reports that the House of Representatives was set to take delivery of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) valued at 160 million naira each.
