President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemn attack on Donald Trump President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemn attack on Donald Trump

Nigerians have reacted to a tweet by President Bola Tinubu, condemning the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, while Trump was speaking at his campaign rally in Pennsylvania, a gunman opened fire on Trump, killing one spectator and injuring Trump’s ear.

He was immediately whisked away by Secret Service agents. It was reported that the shooter was identified as a 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park Pennsylvania.

The incident sparked massive reactions around the world, with many sympathizing with Trump following the attack.

President Tinubu joined many in condemning the attack, as he extended his sympathies to the former President and wished him well.

Tinubu also described it as distasteful, adding that violence has no place in democracy.

He tweeted, “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy. I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery. Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”

His comment has since attracted several reactions from Nigerians who slammed him for failing to condemn the brutal attacks that occurred during the 2023 election but quickly commiserated with America’s former President.

Many shared videos of Tinubu asking his people to “grab it, snatch it, and run.” Another social media user also lamented the President’s silence following the collapse of a school building where several students are reported dead, with many missing in the rubble.
