Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has responded to the visit by Governor Alex Otti of Abia State to imprisoned terrorist Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto prison.
MyNigeria reported that Kanu, who leads the secessionist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was jailed for terrorism following charges brought by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Since Kanu's incarceration, many Igbo leaders have been campaigning for his release on political grounds, with Governor Otti stating he is establishing the procedures for that.
Following his statement, Otti visited Kanu in Sokoto prison, attracting heavy criticism from many Nigerians who questioned why a sitting governor is visiting a convicted terrorist.
In reaction, Sheikh Gumi, who has often been criticised for visiting bandits and terrorists, questioned why Otti has not visited security personnel and civilians who are victims of Kanu's terrorism.
He wrote on Facebook, "Abia governor visits Kanu. Is that supporting a convicted terrorist or sympathy with his secessionist agenda? How about his victims, our Gallant security and civilians? Nonsense!"
