Benue State’s lawmakers of the All Progressives Alliance, APC, in the National Assembly have asked President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing crisis in the state.

The lawmakers, during a press briefing on Thursday at the National Assembly, accused Governor Hyacinth Alia of being dictatorial and ignoring National Assembly members.

Led by Senator Titus Zam, the legislators asked President Tinubu to intervene before the crisis in the state degenerated further.

“We have decided to draw the attention of Mr President and other leaders of APC in Nigeria to seek their immediate intervention before the fortunes of APC in Benue State are destroyed,” said Zam, who was flanked by other members of the House of Representatives.

He said the governor has yet to meet with members of the National Assembly since the election.

He alleged that Gov Alia has not been picking up their calls either, adding that his political appointments have been lopsided.

“In appointing his commissioners, His Excellency again exercised sole discretion without recourse to the normal tradition of requesting nominations from the local governments, disregarded the zoning arrangements and permutations and went ahead to make his independent choices as he deemed soothing,” he said.

The legislators also alleged that the governor is not as popular as he is claiming to be.

“In retrospect, Fr. Alia only came to reap where he did not sow. In any case, you are well aware of the rejection his candidature received from older members of the party,” Zam stated.
