In the wake of the deadly coronavirus that has crept into Nigeria with an index case, the part of human empathy is now lacking.

Sadly most pharmaceuticals and health care outlets have been the biggest gainers of this season now that the rush to get face masks and hand sanitizers has risen in demand.

Prior to this period, there have been unfounded rumours of pharmacists, health workers and unscrupulous business coming together to inflate prices of hand sanitizers and face masks to gain massive margins off a desperate populace, in search of a way to protect themselves from the spread.

MyNigeria.com can authoritatively confirm in its investigation one of the pharmacies involved in inflating the price of hand sanitizers. The name of the pharmacy is Medmark Pharmacy that sells its sanitizers at the rate of N19,950.

This was captured by MyNigeria via a tweet where customers who patronised the pharamcy raised complaints about the hike of the commodity in the market. Segun Awosanya also known as Segalink who visited the pharamcy showed us a picture of the sanitizers being hiked to N4,500. Sanitizers that initially range between N1200 to N1400.

However, a more recent picture showed Medmark Pharamcy situated at 7 Adekunle Osomo Street, Gbagada, Lagos, selling sanitizers for almost N20,000.

Just yesterday, MyNigeria.com reported that the Federal Government warned its citizens against hiking prices of face masks and sanitizers as fears over coronavirus heighten.

Babatunde Iruekera, the Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), warned vendors engaged in the practice that they could be prosecuted.

However, that warning has fallen on deaf years as pharmacies have joined the free for all business to start selling these instruments at a high price.

According to a report gathered online, the prices of face masks have soared astronomically. MyNigeria.com gathered that a box of face masks now sells for N3500 as opposed to N700.

On the other hand, a professor of Virology at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Maduike Ezeibe has said that he has discovered a cure for Lassa fever and coronavirus.

He gave the chemical equation for his therapy as (AI4(SiO4)3+3Mg2SiO4-2AI2Mg3(SiO4)3) and urged countries battling coronavirus to adopt it, MyNigeria.com reported.

The World Health Organization advocates alcohol sanitizers for effective care against the spread.
