Insecurity: Wake up, banditry is ravaging your backyard - Obasanjo to Buhari

Olusegun Obasanjo has again rated the presidency very low in the area of security, especially in the northwest where President Muhammadu Buhari hails from.

The former Nigerian leader said it is quite disturbing that banditry reigns when the chief security commander of the county was once a military general, Punch reports.

In a state of disbelief, Obasanjo said his conclusion about President Buhari was that he knew him quite well because they had both worked together in the Nigerian Army.

Obasanjo said as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, the president should wake up and fight banditry and all forms of violent crimes that are ravaging the nation if he wants to leave a legacy after the expiration of his second administration.

He lamented: “I know what I believed was his limitations and I have written about it – he wasn’t strong in economics, not all of us are strong in anything but you need to have sufficient knowledge of it for you to direct the affairs. He wasn’t particularly too strong in foreign affairs but I thought he was strong enough in the military.

“But with what I have seen now, I believe that maybe he will be thinking of a legacy. Maybe he will also learn from what has happened in recent times. If you are the commander-in-chief and banditry is taking place in your backyard, then you have to wake up.”

Obasanjo added that most state governors are currently confused about which way to go and what exactly to do because of how the president is handling the issue of security.
