Former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is a “lazy and uncaring Commander-in-Chief”.

He said this in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, July 27. His comment comes following the recent attack by terrorists in parts of the country.

On the issue of insecurity, Odinkalu noted that whiles the citizens are nursing their wounds, President Buhari is travelling to Liberia to speak on security.

He said;

“The tragedy of our current crisis is that President Buhari is neither present nor capable of providing leadership.

“Even worse, he does not care, in my respectful view.

“You cannot have, with all profound respect, personnel of the Presidential Guards Brigade being killed in Abuja and the President (travelling) to Liberia to deliver a lecture on security, are you serious?”

Odinkalu was of the view that the role of Commander-in-Chief should not be delegated
but rather other roles in other to secure and protect the lives of Nigerians.

Odinkalu said;

“There is only one element in the job of the President that can never be delegated as long as the President is terrestrial, that is a Commander-in-Chief.

“If the President is in the hospital and under life support, he cannot delegate the job of the Commander-in-Chief, and when the Commander-in-Chief is as lazy and uncaring as the one that Nigeria has, the country is exactly where it deserves to be.”
