The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has declared that the Nigerian healthcare system is no longer in crisis.

According to him, measures have been implemented to ensure better and more affordable healthcare in the country.

Dr Alausa mentioned that President Tinubu believes in a healthy nation and is committed to improving the healthcare sector.

He noted that individuals from India and other sub-Saharan African countries are travelling to Nigeria for treatments and plastic surgeries, as the hospitals in Nigeria are well equipped with state-of-the-art machines.

The minister also highlighted the increase number of students enrolling in healthcare institutions, particularly nursing students, which has risen from 2,500 students to approximately 68, 000.

This initiative, he believes, will reduce the number of people leaving the country in search of better opportunities.

In an interview with Arise Television, Dr Alausa stated,

“Nigeria’s healthcare system is no longer in crisis. W have a president now, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who believes a healthy nation is the core to harnessing our biggest asset, human capital.

The President has done so much for the healthcare sector, we’re over hauling, we’re digging and we’re developing our healthcare sector in its entirety.

It is no longer in crisis. We have a multi-faceted approach. We’ve increased the number of people we are enrolling in our healthcare institutions; medicine, pharmacy, medical laboratory science and all over.

In nursing, from where we came, about 2,500 students were enrolling in nursing school but today, we have about 68,000 enrolling in nursing school and before the end of this year, we will be enrolling 110,000 students in nursing school.

We have a population of over 220 million, Mr President has said it over and over we have to leverage this population to our advantage, we need to produce more.

As we now continue to fix the healthcare sector, people will come back and we are now beginning to see that if you go to the hospitals in Lagos, people are coming from India, sub-Saharan Africa, even from Europe to come and get healthcare in Nigeria.

Surgical operations are cheaper, today we have 900 aesthetic hospitals all around Nigeria. People are coming to get plastic surgery. In the public sector, go to LUTH today, the LUTH cancer centre has state-of-the-art equipment.

We are moving, not Lagos alone, even in the rural areas. We are aligning more; we are collaborating more to direct these funds to increase coverage from 7 million to about 50 million people will have that insurance.”
