The federal government has declared Monday, October 2, 2023 as a national holiday to celebrate Nigeria's 63rd independence celebration.

This was said in a statement released on September 28 by Oluwatoyin Akinlade, the interior ministry's permanent secretary.

In the statement, the interior minister congratulated all Nigerians at home and abroad and promised the public that the government would continue to work hard to address the issues affecting the nation.

In addition to wishing the populace a happy independence day, the minister gave the assurance that President Bola Tinubu's administration would work to improve Nigeria for all people as an appropriate tribute to the country's ancestors' heroes.

Many Nigerians have reacted to the news in various ways. Some have claimed that while the nation continues to celebrate its independence, there is nothing to show for it.

Others also expressed how much they missed Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, the former interior minister.
