'In sha Allah we will be here to make you cry again in 2027' - Ex-Buhari's aide tells opposition

Bashir Ahmad, ex-presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, ex-presidential aide

Bashir Ahmad, ex-presidential aide to former Presdient Muhammadu Buhari has taken to social media to address Nigerians who label Northerner as Aboki.

The word ‘Aboki’ is a Hausa word which means ‘friend’. This term is used mostly by non-indigenes of the northern tribe when communicating.

Bashir who took to his X handle called out those who use the word. According to him, calling northerners aboki will not compel them to vote for their favourite candidate in the 2027 general election.

According to him, they will vote again for the President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.

On Saturday, October 28, Bashir Ahmad wrote;

“If you think labeling us as Abokis or calling us whatever disparaging names will force us to vote for your favored candidates in 2027, well, good luck with that approach. We will, in sha Allah, be here to make you cry one more time.

This did not go down well with some Nigerians who trooped to his comment section to slam him.

Below are some reactions;

@Drsaintdikachi: If you like don’t vote for the most competent candidate bec of supporter called someone Aboki which means my friend, when the dividend of bad governance affects you or your region , hope you will not come here to cry. Look at what someone that went to school and even went to china to do a program is saying. You are supposed to be a light to your region but look at your mentality. Tufiakwa. As if someone from your region will not come to South to ask for vote too. Get lost biko. Fukoff

@ontimesam: You don't have the number. The 2023 election revealed it. APC only have the rigging machines which are INEC and judiciary

@Ifysunshine12: When did aboki become an insult?...

@realTobiAkinbo: So you agree that you are only but a voting tools of northern politicians, no level

@peculiarpat1: You aren't making anyone cry. The last time I checked, your state has one of the highest number of out of school children and those within the multidimensional poverty level. It's this very awkward stance of 'we will make you cry' that is drawing us back. You aren't in any way better than those you want to punish with sentimental votes.

@PassionDohE: All you have to do is educate them on how 'Aboki' isn't a bad name. I don't know why some Northerners take it badly to heart when they are referred to as Aboki

@neabdulrasheed: It's more meaningful to interpret name-calling as a call for self-improvement. Regardless of numbers, Northern Nigeria genuinely needs human development. Let's embrace constructive perspectives on disparaging labels instead of getting defensive.

@slya202: By the time Tinubu inflation finishes up all the money you made in government you go begin reason well. You vote anyhow you face the consequences, no be southerners you dey do, you dey do yasef.

@olabodeoolajide: Focus to make 2023 well before thinking of 2027. The only thing in politicians head is election circle.
