A lone accident on the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway near Ekulo River in Oraifite claimed two lives on Wednesday night, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra.

Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Corps' Sector Commander, confirmed the accident to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Awka on Thursday.

The affected Toyota Sienna, having registration number ENU 609 CN, was speeding when it rammed into a ditch, according to Irelewuyi.

“The unidentified driver of the vehicle was on top speed when he lost control and rammed into a ditch, according to eyewitness reports reaching us,” he said.

“The crash involved seven passengers: five male adults and two female people.

“FRSC personnel rescued the injured victims and transported them to Josephine and Lawrence Hospital in Oraifite, where two male adults were confirmed deceased by the on-duty doctor.”

He added the decedent's remains had been deposited at Oraifite's Restland Mortuary.

While expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, Irelewuyi cautioned motorists against speeding and reckless driving.
