Imo lawmaker arraigned in court over alleged assault

The member representing Ohaji/Egbema state Constituency in Imo House of Assembly, Heclus Okoro who was arrested on Friday and detained by the Imo Police, has been arraigned at a magistrate court in Owerri, the capital city.

Daily Post gathered that the lawmaker was arrested for allegedly deploying thugs to fight a colleague at the government house.

But when our correspondent spoke with his media aide, Destiny Isinwa, he said his principal arrived at the government house after an oversight visit at ISOPADEC, as he is the House committee chairman on ISOPADEC, and was ambushed by his colleagues.

“When he came into the government house to celebrate with the new speaker, Paul Emeziem, three of his colleagues pounced on him and started beating him.

“One slapped him from behind and pushed him down.

“It was the Governor that ordered his arrest when he (Heclus Okoro) rose in defence in order to prevent more hits from his colleagues.

“This, to me, is the height of insult on a lawmaker elected by his people. It is undemocratic and uncalled for. The lawmaker does not deserve this inhuman treatment,” he lamented.

Another accusation levelled against the lawmaker, according to the media aide, was that he appeared not to be in support of the process that removed the former speaker, Chiji Collins.
