Imo govt planning to frame our spokesperson – CUPP

The Coalition of United Political Parties has raised the alarm over alleged plans by the Imo State government to frame its spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere.

The organisation, therefore, threatened to petition foreign missions to secure a visa ban on Governor Hope Uzodimma, who, it said, was the mastermind of the planned frame-up.

The CUPP in a statement by its Chairman Steering Committee, Peter Ameh, said that they were in possession of an “audio recording of how Imo governor and his aide, Chinasa Nwaneri, threatened to frame Ikenga Ugochinyere of arson, murder, rape and then illegally detain him.”

But Uzodinma’s Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachukwu, described the allegation as unfounded.

“The characters must have woken up from deep slumber with its attendant hallucination consequences”, Nwachukwu said.

The CUPP said the governor’s anger came on the heels of the exposure by the opposition coalition that he was among those plotting to rig and undermine the 2023 general election in Imo and 14 other states.

Ameh, therefore, called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and security agencies to stop the governor from that plan.

He said the CUPP would petition foreign missions to secure a visa ban on Uzodimma and his cohorts.

The statement reads, “Since we uncovered a plot by some politicians to stop INEC use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation system and tampering of the voter register, Imo Government has been threatening to harm our Spokesperson, Ugochinyere and PDP Ideato North-South house of Representatives candidate.

“Their plot to kill Ugochinyere will be their greatest undoing as they have met a man that will never stop until they are exposed.

“In the audio recording we have, you can hear the Governor’s aide proudly and shamelessly saying he will arrest and harm Ugochinyere if he enters Imo. As our Spokesperson enters Imo today they should stay (sic) clear of his path. Anything done otherwise won’t be tolerated by the opposition.”
