The Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Usman, has set up a panel to investigate the collapse of a 21-storey building on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, said the panel would determine if there were criminal infractions in the tragedy, which claimed 46 lives.Odumosu said, “The state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said something about the 21-storey building that collapsed and the police command has been part and parcel of the response team. Equally, to show that it is a national calamity, the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Usman, also visited the scene of the incident.“

The state government as an entity has responded; the IG has also responded by setting up a high-powered police investigative team under the Assistant Inspector General of Police, to find out the criminal culpability of anybody, directly or indirectly connected with that calamity.

“We are looking at it from the criminal angle, while the state government has also set up a professional body to find out any professional negligence and that is in the technical field.”
