Lagos residents have been assured that electricity will be restored each day by 5 p.m. during the 25-day upgrade of the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.
This follows the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) announcement of maintenance work expected to disrupt power supply across various parts of the state starting Monday, July 28, 2025.
Disruptions to happen between morning and evening
According to the TCN, the blackouts will be “intermittent,” occurring mostly between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the full duration of the scheduled upgrade.
The maintenance work, they explained, is necessary to enhance the capacity and reliability of the power line serving a critical section of Lagos.
DisCos promise lights back by 5 p.m.
In response to growing concerns from residents about the reliability of power supply during the period, the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) has moved to ease tensions.
Speaking on behalf of the DisCos during a Channels TV interview, Sunday Oduntan, ANED’s Chief Executive Officer, urged the public to trust that power would be restored daily by 5 p.m. without fail.
Trust the system, DisCos appeal to Lagos
Oduntan emphasised the importance of rebuilding confidence in public infrastructure.
“We now need to start believing in our institutions,” he said.
While acknowledging he doesn’t represent the TCN, Oduntan said the project had been well-planned and would follow a fixed routine to avoid prolonged disruption.
Why will the work take 25 days?
Explaining the length of the scheduled maintenance, Oduntan compared engineering projects to legal proceedings.
“In law, you can’t always predict the exact end, but in engineering, timelines are clearer,” he said.
He explained that while it might seem long, a faster two-week project would have involved a total shutdown—something not favourable for Nigeria’s economic stability.
Power firms already informed customers in advance
A prior report by Legit.ng disclosed that before the announcement, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric both issued public notices warning customers of possible fluctuations in supply.
They confirmed that consumers should expect intermittent outages, but noted the upgrades would improve service reliability in the long run.
Residents wary, but hopeful for stability
According to a ChannelsTV report, despite the assurances, some Lagosians remain sceptical about the DisCos’ ability to stick to the 5 p.m. restoration time daily.
Previous experiences with prolonged blackouts and poor communication have eroded public confidence.
Still, many are hoping that this structured schedule brings the stability the city desperately needs—at least before nightfall.
Key Details:
Outage Period: July 28–August 21, 2025
Affected Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Areas affected as the electricity firm issues a notice
Legit.ng earlier reported that Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a planned power outage that will affect several areas under its coverage for 25 days.
The company explained that the service disruption is due to maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
In a public notice issued on Friday, July 25, EKEDC said that the disruption will begin on Monday, July 28, and will to Thursday, August 21, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.
