Ighalo outlines condition that will make him retire in the NPFL

Al Hilal striker Odion Ighalo has outlined certain conditions that will inform his decision to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) before retirement.

According to the former Manchester United striker, he will consider playing in the domestic league provided there is adequate security measures in place.

Ighalo, 33, however, did not rule out the possibility of foreign-based players returning home to the local league.

“Our players abroad can come back to Nigeria, but security must be improved upon,” the ex-Watford striker said in an exclusive interview on Naija Made show on Super Sports.

“The League (Nigerian Premier Football League) must be well organized. A lot of money will be pumped into the game, and matches should be on television,” he added.

The Super Eagles striker began his career at Osun United Football Club and Julius Berger FC before securing a move to Norwegian club Lyn in 2007.

The NPFL has over the years been marred by incidents of hooliganism against referees, journalists, and players among others.

A local journalist was assaulted by some players of Shooting Stars last season, Soccernet Nigeria reports.
