Igbos will be the biggest beneficiaries of Tinubu's presidency - Kalu

Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu has said that the people of the southeast are going to be the greatest beneficiaries when the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Asiwaju Tinubu is voted into power.

The former Governor of Abia State describes the APC flagbearer as a “strategist” who will ensure that the Igbos see the majority of the country's development when he wins the presidency next year.

“Let me be honest with you, we were governors together. He is a strategist. He will make the presidency beneficial to the Igbo.

“The Igbo people are going to be the biggest beneficiaries of Asiwaju Tinubu’s presidency, and you will see it. Hold me responsible,” he said.

He maintains that he doesn't have an issue with an Igbo becoming president of Nigeria, adding that the presidency is not a regional issue

“I have no problem with an Ibo man becoming president. But we have to do it with other Nigerians. If you don’t do it with other Nigerians, it’s not going to work, no matter how popular you are. This is President of Nigeria, not the president of Igbo land.

The Senate Chief Whip believes that it is not yet time for an Igbo to lead the country.

He explains that the election is more of party business and a political affair than a personal one.

“Mind you, I am an Igbo man to the core. I am also a Nigerian to the core. Nobody can take that away from me.

“If anyone is to be nominated as president of Igbo extraction, I could have been the one. But I see it not feasible yet.

“This is a party business. I have no business about whoever is running. For me, it is not personal, but it is political and a party affair. It is about a party winning an election.”
