'If you don’t know the story, don’t envy the glory' - Reactions trail arrest of Abidemi Rufai

The arrest of Abidemi Rufai, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Special Duties to Governor Dapo Abiodun has caused a stir on social media since the news broke.

Rufai was arrested at the JFK Airport in New York on Friday, May 14 on a criminal complaint charging him with wire fraud for his scheme to steal over $350,000 in unemployment benefits from the Washington State Employment Security Department.

The 42-year-old is scheduled for a detention hearing on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, after an initial hearing on Saturday, May 15, 2021.

His boss, Governor Dapo Abiodun in a statement said his arrest was troubling. The statement further said the “Governor cannot be held responsible for the actions of a full-grown adult.”
