Leader of the Biafran separatist organization, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has described the military governor of the Eastern Region, the late Chukwuemeka "Emeka" Odumegwu-Ojukwu, as the group's eternal leader, icon and "Moses", whom they will like to honor with the exit of Biafra.

Speaking in an interview with veteran journalist and founder of Ovation magazine, Chief Dele Momodu on Instagram Live, Nnamdi Kanu said the late ruler exposed him to the role the British played during the civil war and the need to be mindful of them as he recalled an incident in London.

According to him, while he (Ojukwu) was been interviewed in London, journalists had listening devices that transmitted sensitive information, which undermined the efforts and plans of the Aburi Accord.

"First of all, Nigeria is not my country, I was born a Biafran. My birth certificate read a Biafran and no one has ever changed that," he said.

He continued: "The fact that I was at some point in possession of a Nigerian passport doesn't actually mean the county conferred upon me their citizenship. I saw the Nigerian passport as a mere travel document because my birthday certificate issued at the time of my birth reads Biafra.

"Nobody of a sane mind will condone or accept was is happening in Nigeria. I believe that genuine attempts have been made in the past to remedy the wreck that Nigeria is today but there was a palpable unwillingness by the powers that be to do something about it."

"I detest suffering and pain, I hate to see people suffer, I hate to see people in pain, the only thing that propels me, that drives me towards this very agitation is not born out of hatred for anybody but a desire to taste freedom in our camp."
