The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to claims that staff of the electoral agency have tampered with the results sheets in various polling units.

In a series of posts on social media on Saturday, several party agents and voters have raised alarm of the actions of some INEC officials tampering with the results sheet to favour certain candidates.

Shortly after voting began in some polling units, Dino Melaye took to his social media page to share videos and photos of some INEC officials refusing to show plain results sheet to the agents.

Party agents and voters protested the actions of the INEC staff, causing them to pack up and leave without conducting any accreditation and voting exercise.

Reacting to the allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Melaye, and concerned Nigerians, top INEC officials have announced an investigation has been launched into the matter.

In a post shared on its X page shortly after allegations of the forged sheets emerged, INEC said;

"Our attention has been drawn to a report that filled result sheets were discovered in some polling units in Kogi State.

“The Commission views this situation seriously.

“Our senior officials deployed to the State are currently investigating the incident(s). The Commission will communicate its decision earnestly”, the commission stated.

INEC is currently conducting an off-cycle election in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo state in a bid to elect a new governor of these states.
