INEC recognises Wike-backed PDP faction

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognised the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC).

The Wike faction has Abdulrahman Mohammed as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This has been reflected on INEC's website.

Others recognised as part of the PDP National Working Committee are: National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Treasurer, Ahmed Yayari Mohammed; National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyengikuro; and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN.

INEC's action followed the National Convention of the PDP held on Sunday in Abuja, with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, leading delegates.

Speaking at the convention, Wike said, “There is room for accommodation. The PDP is a very large party. Look at the umbrella, it is wide enough to accommodate everyone,” he said after inspecting the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome Abuja, venue of the convention.

Continuing, the FCT minister said, “I have always said that in any group, there will be grievances. You cannot expect that in a family of two or three people, everyone will always be satisfied, let alone a party with millions of members.

“There will always be a few who are not happy. We have agreed to sit down with them, understand their concerns, and see how we can accommodate them. What is most important is the overall interest of the party.”
