INEC reacts after being called out for liking a post calling Peter Obi an opportunist

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to the commission's Twitter page liking a post which called the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi an opportunist.

The Commission in their response stated that it is an electoral body hence not having preference for any candidate or political party.

INEC assured Nigerians of a free and fair election and the Commission's neutrality adding that its allegiance is to the people of Nigeria.

The Commission also stated that it is looking into the matter to determine what exactly led to the liking of that particular post and that it would take appropriate measures if an infraction were to be found.

It wrote: "The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a post on its Twitter handle, liking a post relating to one of the 18 Presidential candidates.

"The Commission is an independent electoral body and does not have preference for any candidate or political party. The Commission assures all Nigerians of its neutrality and will conduct a general election that is free and fair to all. The allegiance of the Commission is to the people of Nigeria."
