INEC officials present as Wike leads PDP national convention

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, led by Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in Abuja on Sunday.

The delegates are expected to affirm the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led national caretaker committee as the substantive national working committee (NWC) of the party.

Wike had insisted that the national convention of the party, scheduled for March 29 and 30, would go ahead as planned.

Speaking at the event, Wike took a swipe at former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

He said, "What have happened with defections everywhere shows that Governors under the PDP who defected have shown that they have no leadership traits. I liken them to the former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party who was given a platform to contest as President, but when crisis came in Labour Party, it is that time it was required for him to show leadership but he ran away because he cannot solve problems.

"The same thing when our Governors were looking for a platform to become Governors but when crisis came, it was time for them to show leadership, to show as men of vision and courage they ran away. This is to tell you those who can stand in times of crisis."
